You can Plan A Holiday Party
Holiday Party Planning Done Right
As we approach the vacation season, often awash with holiday parties, it got me brooding about how employees are rewarded. Definitely one of the chief reasons for hosting a company holiday party is to reward employees for their difficult work and dedication, and there could be finance reasons as well.  ;
a holiday party does something else too. It creates a space for workers and management to get together not as employees, but as mates. It provides an opportunity for folk to get together and experience the company of the people you’re employed with without being concerned about the bottom line, which is something that won’t happen much across the year. Sure there could be finance benefits ( see the article linked above ), but this is primarily done by creating a little bit of goodwill that goes a good way. It lets your people know that you value them and their work. So when I see that firms are deciding against doing a party due to the economy I worry about the message this sends to  ; employees, plenty of whom probably look forward to and expect some variety of year end celebration. When times are difficult, which definitely is the case in many industries, it’s especially necessary to show workers you care.
If you normally do a lavish party, naturally it’s understandable that you’d cut back a little bit, but don’t do away with the party altogether. Do it smaller, faster and smarter. You can change the scale without spoiling the event. If you normally hire a celeb comic, as an example, think about employing talent locally. If you typically do an extravagant meal, do a buffet, or a potluck. My point is do something. If you can afford to use vacation party entertainment, I’d definitely commend it. Using a corporate comedian is a great way to get peoples’s minds off the economy for 45-60 minutes and it gives your visitors a typical experience to chat ( and joke ) about for months to come and leaves everybody feeling slightly better ( just in time for the vacations ).
